VW Style Magazine

NEW OLD STOCK – if that's the right phrase – is possibly the best way to describe this print title.

Whilst I was trekking around North America in search of 10-second street cars for Quarter Mile and Then Some, I quickly noticed something rather odd ... that there were no magazines dedicated to the modified water-cooled Volkswagen scene.

At the time I was submitting as many of the cars I found as I could to The Golf magazine, back in the UK, but there was only so much overseas content they could cover ... and so came the idea of a monthly 100-page print magazine about Volkswagens, and nothing else.

In total 52 cars were photographed for the first six issues – shot in Seattle, Oregon, Vancouver, Toronto, New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut.

Staff were head-hunted, offices secured and a bank account set up. We even started building a magazine project car called Mazinger (pictured to the left).

But, even though advertisers were forming a nice orderly queue to get involved they understandably said they would all pay once the first issue came out. Ideas, ambition, drive, and feature cars were endless, but bank-rolling the project to the news stands – back in 2003 – was sadly not. And so it was, quite literally, shelved.

And here we are, twenty years on from writing the book that's now about to come out, so why not release those 2003 and 2004 editions of VW Style that are still waiting in the pipe line? It's all there, after all, just needs tidying up. There's even the same blank pages were adverts were meant to be – just in case those advertisers are still interested...

The cars may well be old news now – possibly finding their way into other magazines back then – with different platforms and power plants considered for swaps these days, but if you never tire of reading about turbocharged VR6 Mk3 Golfs and 16v-swapped Rabbits then this could well be the magazine for you – out of date or not.

We're also thinking of finally building 'that' magazine project build too, which would be a fun vehicle to help promote Quarter Mile and Then Some, and indeed give VW Style some up to date content.

Initial copies will be printed in the UK, but postage will most probably be free, including to North America destinations.

Please use the contact form if you are interested in learning more, ahead of the release date later this year, or would just like to be kept up to speed. Cheers, Jon
