The Author

Born in 1973, in Ludlow, England, Jon Saxon started life as a motoring journalist for VW Motoring, first documenting his 1994 round-Britain record-attempt in a Mk1 Golf GTI – to visit all the counties of Great Britain in the quickest time. The same magazine would later serialise his Mk1 Golf hillclimb project build.

Jon is best known for his North American coverage in The Golf magazine, and his role as Features Editor for an overseas syndication of CAR and later Editor-in-Chief for evo.

Jon later made the early leap from paper to interactive digital with the creation of RubberDuck magazine, which was launched in 2010 – featuring the on-road world exclusive of VW’s twin-turbo W12 Mk5 Golf GTI, and later received the 2011 DMA ‘Car Magazine of the Year’ award.

Following five years running a couple of British pubs Jon made the return to publishing and in 2021 discovered the diary notes, undeveloped rolls of camera film, and micro-cassettes from his 2002 trip to North America which were thought lost forever.

2022 marks the 20th anniversary of Jon’s 90-day trek across North America.
